The W Beach cliffs
The W Beach cliffs
From the plateau of Tekke Burnu and the RE water tanks, return to the beach at Port Talbot and continue the walk north and then north eastward around the headland. Recalling that there are no tides here, you can do this quite safely, keeping a few metres above the water. A narrow path is present for parts of the way.
Watch however for the rough ground higher up. It is covered in dense scrub and this whole areas was closely populated with dugouts and makeshift dwelling and stores. Note the walls and platforms in the photo above.
Nearer to the sea on your left, you come across part of the old beach and in places, remains of the retaining wall built alongside it.
Close to this area, rather higher up the cliff, is ‘Baronial Hall’, a cave which for a period General Hunter Weston made his HQ.
